An Amazon distribution center employee who fired several shots into the building and fled the scene has now reportedly died after a confrontation with police.

A police officer was taken to hospital after being shot by the suspect but is in stable condition, according to reports.

Amazon’s fulfillment center is located in West Jefferson, Ohio, 17 miles west of Columbus, and reports of an active shooter were called in around 5 p.m.

West Jefferson police said the suspect fled the scene and shot an officer in the process, ABC affiliate WSYX reported.

Police fired back and the suspect was taken to the hospital for his injuries and died shortly after, WSYX said.

“The unknown suspect left the area for an unknown location,” the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. publish to the Facebook.

The suspect was identified as someone who works at the facility by police, WSYX reported.

It is unclear whether the suspect is a former or current Amazon employee.

Police did not release the name of the suspect.
