Today’s edition of campaign-related news from across the country.

* In case the Democratic panic wasn’t already palpable, new polls from The New York Times, Siena College and The Philadelphia Inquirer found that Donald Trump was leading P.resident Joe Biden in several key swing states — Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia and Nevada — by margins ranging from 3 to 12 points. The same poll, however, revealed that the incumbent was narrowly leading in Wisconsin.

* Speaking of which, the same poll revealed that Democrats leading in US Senate races in Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, by margins ranging from 2 to 9 points.

* Criminal trial of Senator Bob Menendez starts today. The incumbent Democratic senator has seen his support drop in his home state of New Jersey, but, at least for now, Menendez is still running for re-election.

* Election observers will want to keep an eye on Maryland, Nebraska and West Virginia tomorrow, where there are all kinds of interesting contests up and down the vote.

* One Nation, which is closely aligned with Senate Republican leaders, is investing incredible US$70 million in five states with Democratic Senate incumbents: Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada.

* In related news, American Bridge, a super PAC aligned with Democratic officials, is investing US$25 million in abortion-related advertising in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

* Following reports that Trump might be considering former ambassador Nikki Haley as his 2024 running mate, the former president used his social media platform to make it explicitly clear that Haley is not considered.

* After keeping locals guessing for months about his election plans, Phil Scott, the current Republican governor of Vermont, announced over the weekend that he will run for a fifth term. It remains to be seen whether he will face former Democratic governor Howard Dean in the fall.

* And it turns out that Trump’s youngest son, Barron, will not be a delegate after all, to the Republican National Convention.
