The people on the boat didn’t expect this. Yes, they were hoping to see a whale in the water that day, but this encounter was special.

A humpback whale swimming near the whale watching boat on the California coast, he was feeling eccentric.

The group spotted the whale and, when they thought it was going to dive into the depths of the ocean, it did the opposite. The giant mammal burst out of the water, twisting its body and falling backwards into the water in a dramatic dive.

“Oh my God!” say passengers in a video posted by the company, Capt. Dave’s Dana Point Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari.

Humpback whales are known for being one of the most playful whales, acrobatic creatures at sea, according to oceanadventures.com. They are also known for their music, singing songs during mating season that can be heard 20 miles away.

Their lively behavior on the surface makes them the most exciting to watch.

“Humpback whales are living proof that you should never be off guard while whale watching,” the company wrote in a Facebook post.
