A live streaming portal between Dublin and New York will be closed from 10pm on Tuesday due to “inappropriate behaviour” in the Irish capital.

The temporary closure comes amid continued attempts to find technical solutions to address the issues, which have included flashing body parts and displaying potentially offensive images.

Thousands of people have visited the two-way video link in Dublin, which offers a real-time view of the Big Apple.

TO Dublin The Council’s statement said: “The team behind the Portal’s artistic sculpture, Portals.org, has been investigating possible technical solutions to the inappropriate behavior of a small minority of people in front of the portal.

“Unfortunately, the preferred solution, which would have involved a blurry image, was not satisfactory.

“As a result, the portal will close at 10pm tonight and the Portals.org team has told us they expect it to go back up later this week.”

The statement added: “We are delighted to see how many people have been enjoying the Portal since its launch last week.

“It has become a global phenomenon and it is important to note that the overwhelming majority of people interacting with the Dublin Portal have behaved appropriately.”

Dublin City Council said there has been an increase in traffic since the Portal opened in north Dublin, off O’Connell Street.

The American portal is located at the busy Manhattan intersection between Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street.

Online videos have shown some on the Irish side flashing body parts, flashing profanities on phone screens and showing images from 9/11.

Another woman was escorted away by Irish police after she was seen rubbing herself against the doorway.
