Body camera video released Monday shows a deputy helping a frightened girl who got lost on a Florida beach in what authorities called a “parental nightmare.”

The incident occurred May 10 at Indian Rocks Beach in Pinellas County, about 25 miles northwest of St. Petersburg.

Deputy Geoff Moore was able to find the child after the girl’s mother provided a description and a recent photo of her, according to a video posted on Facebook by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

When Moore found the lost girl on the beach, the terrified child could be heard saying, “I miss my mom. I miss her.”

A sheriff’s deputy approaches a lost girl in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department.

In a touching show of comfort, Moore responded, “Do you need a hug? It’s going to be okay. Let’s take you to mom, okay?”

The girl, who has no name and her face is blurred in the video, is seen hugging the deputy.

Moments later, Moore was able to successfully reunite the mother and daughter as a large group of spectators watched the emotional moment of a mother audibly sobbing, happy to see her daughter again.

“Fortunately, this story has a happy ending,” the sheriff’s department wrote in its Facebook post.

“Whenever you take your children to a crowded place, consider taking a photo of them in their current clothing so that if the unthinkable occurs – your child is lost – they can be located as quickly as possible,” the department recommended.
