Continuous posts about receipt checks and self-checkout frustrations continue to circulate on social media.

On Tuesday, Randy Martin (@CoachMartin_) turned to X to vent his frustrations.

“@Walmart you don’t have half the things I need, expect me to take a look myself and check my receipt on the way out the door,” user X wrote.

“Nothing like it used to be at Walmart,” he continued.

Randy isn’t the only one fed up with receipt checks.

As previously reported by The US Sun, a man was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting an elderly receptionist who was checking his girlfriend’s receipt in High Point, North Carolina, about 80 miles (124 kilometers) from Charlotte.

Trevon Walden, 27, punched the Walmart employee in the eye, causing him to “fall to the ground and hit his head,” according to the police report.

Police later arrested Waden and his girlfriend, Tomeisha Robbs, 28, on misdemeanor battery charges.

A post went viral on X after a man complained about self-checkout and receipt verification.

“You can trust me to do self-checkout or you can put your cashiers back where they used to be,” said the User X wrote.

“I’m not interested in proving that I did your job for you,” he continued.

“If you want me to be a cashier without training, then that’s your problem, not mine.”

The man encouraged the large retailer to provide job opportunities to young people.

User X vented that he is not being compensated for scanning the items he purchases, so someone else should be doing the work.

A Lawyer’s Top 5 Receipt Checking Tips

Los Angeles attorney Camron Dowlatshahi spoke with The US Sun about receipt checks and a customer’s rights and options when asked to show their receipt.

  1. There has been a lot of debate surrounding the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it’s in the store, it’s completely legal. “Apparently there is nothing illegal about this. You are still on the company premises and the reason for doing this is to avoid theft”, confirms Dowlatshahi.
  2. However, if they’re kicking you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location is important,” he explained. “If you’re outside the store, you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of stealing and that you have to show the receipt, I think it’s a little bit of a different situation because now you’re in your way.”
  3. Although customers can say no to receipt checks, it can cause problems if you do so and the store suspects you of stealing. “You might say no, maybe it will create an unnecessary hassle for you because now you might have the police coming to your house and following up,” Dowlatshahi said.
  4. If you’re being blocked from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you may have legal action – but the store must have detained you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus to do it,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a client has been emotionally traumatized by being detained for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] process.”
  5. “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s a very simple thing to do. If you haven’t stolen anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.

Another Walmart shopper said he ignores the store’s receipt checks 100% of the time.

In a sneaky move, the man pretends to be using his cell phone as he leaves the door.

He was only stopped by a store clerk once.

In response, he told the employee that the receipt was at the bottom of the bag.

“She didn’t check and say have a nice day,” the buyer said in the X.
