A FRUSTRATED shopper has revealed he is fed up with an anti-theft measure that is becoming increasingly common in retail stores.

The customer is one of many who question whether a store’s anti-theft measures have gone too far.

“America is so funny, why are toothbrushes locked up and making me feel like a bad guy because I want to clean my teeth?” the user he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“There’s no way people are stealing toothbrushes at a disproportionate rate that requires this.”

Another shopper responded by revealing that she had to wait 30 minutes before an employee could help her get the deodorant that was locked behind glass.

“I once had to wait 30 minutes at Walgreens for someone to come and unlock deodorant for me,” they said.

“And there were no other stores nearby.”

Walgreens is one of many retailers under attack from customers who are fed up with its anti-theft measures.

One person noticed that they never have a pleasant in-store experience and was curious to know whether these measures are profitable in the long run.

“I wonder if Walgreens saved money on those anti-theft locks or lost it when people like me say, in the 11th minute of waiting for someone to unlock it, ‘Actually, I’m not waiting here for a product I could have caught it’. what I wanted was a quick run to the store,'” user publish.

Many expressed similar sentiments as they noted long wait times just to get items into their hands.

“If they want to lock everything down, they *should* hire more staff to open the cases. But they won’t do it,” said another person in response to the X post.

“Exactly! They make the cashiers (who always have lines at my stores) do this, so it’s always a long wait,” the original poster added.

CVS shoppers faced a similar issue, revealing they won’t buy items if they’re behind glass.

‘It was totally in the machine,’ warns man who found information-gathering device at CVS – customers are risking their cards

“On a few occasions, I went into one to buy something and realized it was locked behind plexiglass,” Krang Nelson (@krangtnelson) he said in X.

“I noticed there are no staff to unlock the plexiglass.

“And he left without buying anything.

“Stupid company run by idiots.”

The following retailers may lock shelves when necessary to combat increased theft.

  • Wal-Mart
  • Target
  • Walgreens
  • CVS
  • Duane Reade
  • Help Ritual
  • dollar tree

This comes after CVS recently spoke out about the backlash, explaining that they only lock up their items when they feel it’s necessary.

“Blocking a product is a measure of last resort,” a CVS spokesperson said in an email, per Los Angeles Times.

A CVS employee in California revealed that the store where she works has a major theft problem.

“This happens all the time,” said the CVS employee, Manteca/Ripon Bulletin reported.

“The police don’t respond anyway because it’s no more than $950.”
