Police and specialist search teams have been searching for Bren over the past few days since he went missing at around 2.45pm on Thursday.

Police in neighboring Italy also reportedly helped with search efforts.

The Brit, who achieved a world record in 2018 by kayaking down a 128ft-high waterfall in Mexico, was reportedly swept into the water by recirculating waves.

Police said he was sucked out of his kayak and has not been found since.

Bren’s disappearance was announced by Pyranha, which manufactures the Brit’s high-performance kayaks.

The company wrote: “’It is with regret that we announce an accident involving Bren Orton.

“While kayaking with a group on the Melezza River in Switzerland, Bren became trapped in a recirculating structure and did not return to the surface.

“Authorities and friends continue their search efforts tirelessly and at this time, Bren is considered missing.”

Bren’s family and friends fear he has died, but police have not yet confirmed anything.

A Ticino Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.45pm in the Palagnedra area, a man who was previously in a kayak was reported missing in the River Melezza.

“The searches – currently unsuccessful and still ongoing – began immediately and involve officers from the cantonal police and, in support, the Ascona police, as well as rescue teams from the Locarnese and Valli Ambulance Service.”
