RECEIVED checks frustrate one Walmart shopper, so he instructed others on how to avoid them.
Walmart buyer insists receipt checks cannot be performed without probable cause.
The advice came in response to another shopper’s Facebook post.
“OK, does anyone else get really annoyed when Walmart asks to see your receipt?” Carol Dj Jenkins said in a publish.
“Like you already make me check my own stuff, but now you want to make sure I did it right?
“Get rid of self-checkout and hire cashiers.”

Walmart buyer Michael Willoughby also responded with his frustration regarding receipt checks.
He explained that there are a few choices you can make when faced with your receipt.
“Yes, I refuse,” said Willoughby.
“If they ask more, I ask if they are accusing me of theft and then ask for a manager.
“The law states that if you are not in a store that is a member, only the Loss Prevention Team can stop and detain you, and only until the law arrives.
“They don’t send them because it instantly accuses you of theft, defaming your character.”
Willoughby suggests standing up for yourself so you don’t get pressured by the team.
“Moral of the story, don’t be a sheep,” he added.
“Tell them no, thank you politely and keep walking.
“If they come to you, ask if they are accusing you of theft and if defaming your character is worth the lawsuit.
“They won’t bother you anymore.”
MIXED OPINIONS
Some other customers responded to the post to express their annoyance with the matter as well.
“Exactly what I do, it’s just the stuttering of asking is what irritates me,” said this user.
“If I was carrying something like a TV, sure, but a bag?”
Another user said: “I always say no thanks. It’s not a club, so you don’t need to provide a receipt.”
A Lawyer’s Top 5 Receipt Checking Tips

Los Angeles attorney Camron Dowlatshahi spoke with The US Sun about receipt checks and a client’s rights and options when it comes to being asked to show their receipt.
- There has been a lot of debate surrounding the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it’s in the store, it’s completely legal. “Apparently there is nothing illegal about this. You are still on the company premises and the reason for doing this is to avoid theft”, confirms Dowlatshahi.
- However, if they’re kicking you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location is important,” he explained. “If you’re outside the store, you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of stealing and that you have to show the receipt, I think it’s a little bit of a different situation because now you’re in your way.”
- Although customers can say no to receipt checks, it can cause problems if you do so and the store suspects you of stealing. “You might say no, maybe it will create an unnecessary hassle for you because now you might have the police coming to your house and following up,” Dowlatshahi said.
- If you’re being blocked from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you may have legal action – but the store must have detained you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus to do it,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a client has been emotionally traumatized by being detained for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] process.”
- “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s a very simple thing to do. If you haven’t stolen anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.

However, some other buyers had contrary opinions and said they agreed with receipt checks.
“With all the robberies, this doesn’t bother me at all,” said one user.
“The employee is only doing what the managers tell him to do. Don’t get mad at them,” said another user.
“They hate doing it too, I’m sure.”
“Acting belligerently will cause increased suspicion and problems and it is up to you in how you choose to act. The team doesn’t get paid enough for a fight,” this user said.
