THOUSANDS traveled to the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, leading Donald Trump’s rally as he continues his historic campaign for president.

Faithful Trump supporters stood in heavy rain in Crotona Park in the South Bronx hours before the former president took the stage.

However, the wait was spent listening to Maga rapperssporting Trump-related tattoos, and many insisting the Republican candidate could turn New York red for the first time since 1984.

Trump, 77, is the first Republican candidate to visit the area for a campaign rally in 40 years as he tries to convince black and Hispanic voters to abandon Joe Biden.

During the rally announcement, Trump’s campaign said it would highlight Biden’s “disastrous” economic record and rising violent crime.

Although the former president’s chances of winning the state are slim, the challenge is even greater in the Bronx.

That didn’t stop local residents from flooding the park, expressing how happy they were to see Trump while also expressing frustration with the Biden administration.

“President Trump loves the Bronx and the Bronx loves President Trump,” wrote one person on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Make no mistake: The Bronx is Trump country!”

In 2020, Trump left New York with just 38% of the vote, winning just 16% of voters in the Bronx.

During his successful campaign against Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump won just 10% of Bronx voters.

The rally comes as a criminal trial of Trump for allegedly falsifying business records in connection with the silence money payment made to porn star, Stormy Daniels, is still in the works.

Meanwhile, Trump made several stops throughout the city, including a fire station, a construction site and a bodega.

Bronx Congressman Ritchie Torres criticized the former president’s visit while speaking to MSNBC.

“It’s obvious to all of us that his priority is not the people of the Bronx,” Torres said.

“His priority is self-forgiveness and self-preservation.

His presidency was a catastrophe for the Bronx, his mismanagement of COVID left a death toll of over 7,000 in the Bronx, which is higher than the combined death count of Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

Torres added that instead of holding a rally, Trump should apologize “for the harm he caused.”

Donald Trump’s legal battles

Donald Trump is the first former president to be charged with state or federal crimes. He has been indicted four times and faces a range of charges. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is juggling court dates with rallies during the campaign. The US Sun analyzes the former president’s current legal battles.

New York Business Records

  • Trump is accused of falsifying business records allegedly linked to $130,000 in secret payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
  • The payment, executed by Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen, ensured that an embarrassing story would not be published before the 2016 presidential election.
  • Trump could face up to four years in prison if convicted.
  • Trump can only be pardoned by the governor of New York if he is convicted.
  • The trial began on April 15 and is expected to last until May.

Classified Federal Documents

  • Trump is accused of mishandling classified documents after leaving office and storing them at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
  • He was also accused of obstructing federal agents as they tried to recover the documents.
  • Trump is also accused of having shown the trove of files to people who were not supposed to see them.
  • Trump faces a range of charges, including allegations that he violated the Espionage Act.
  • Trump is also accused of engaging in a conspiracy to obstruct justice.
  • He faces 100 years in prison if convicted.
  • The case is not expected to go to trial before the November elections.
  • If Trump wins, he could pardon himself or order the Justice Department to drop the charges because the case was brought at the federal level.

Federal Electoral Subversion

  • In August 2023, the Department of Justice charged Trump with the events linked to the January 6 insurrection and the organization of false voter lists.
  • Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, conspiracy against rights and obstruction of an attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.
  • If convicted, Trump could face a maximum sentence of 55 years in prison.
  • A trial date has not yet been decided, but it is unlikely that the case will go to trial before the November elections.
  • The Supreme Court is considering arguments over whether Trump is immune from prosecution for some or all of his actions while in the White House.

Election interference in Georgia:

  • Trump and 18 others have been accused of trying to change the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia by pressuring local officials and election workers.
  • The district attorney for Fulton County, Georgia, which includes Atlanta, indicted Trump on racketeering charges in August 2023.
  • He turned himself in to a Georgia prison and had his mugshot taken.
  • A trial is not expected to take place before the November elections.
  • Trump cannot pardon himself if convicted because the charges were brought at the state level.
  • In Georgia, only a board appointed by the governor can approve pardons.

He said he believes the people of the Bronx will not “buy the snake oil He’s selling.”

Crotona Park was wet and muddy after a morning full of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reposted a video of the bad weather with the caption: “God is good.”

HISTORICAL VISIT

The last Republican presidential candidate to win the state during an election was Ronald Reagan.

He visited the neighborhood during his campaign against then-President Jimmy Carter.

Reagan spoke in front of a vacant lot on Charlotte Street that Carter had visited in 1977 and promised to make improvements, but little had changed.

Some protested Reagan’s visit, shouting at the candidate to “go back to California” and others shouting that he would do nothing to help Bronx residents during his presidency.

During Carter’s visit, his motorcade passed blocks of burned buildings while Carter exited the motorcade twice to talk to residents.

Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton also visited the Bronx.

President George W. Bush famously threw out the first pitch during the World Series, just weeks after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
