Hiring a hitman takes courage, but for Mark Sievers it was child’s play, with the family man working with his childhood friend, Curtis Wayne Wright Jr., to orchestrate his wife’s murder.

Unbeknownst to Mark Sievers, Curtis took matters into his own hands and enlisted the help of his friend Jimmy Ray Rodgers to carry out the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers, whose case is depicted in a classic NBC Dateline true crime episode on Friday, May 24th. , 2024, at 9 pm ET.

Where is Jimmy Ray Rodgers now?

In October 2019, Jimmy Ray Rodgers was convicted of second-degree murder for the murder of Dr. Teresa Sievers.

A few months later, he was sentenced to life in prison, despite initially facing a charge of first-degree murder – and the death penalty.

“It’s justice, it’s behind us now,” said Patrick Tottenham, Teresa Sievers’ brother, as reported by News-Press.

Tottenham thanked investigators and prosecutors, adding that the trial was “a nightmare. It was a nightmare.”

In 2022, Rodgers filed an appeal of his case, but his conviction was upheld.

In 2023, his lawyer told reporters that Rodgers planned to file a second appeal.

“The jury says I’m not a murderer. I was found not guilty of a conspiracy,” Rodgers said. Wink News.

“And the jury found me without a weapon [which] It means I’m not the killer. So I’m not a murderer.”

“I am not part of any conspiracy. [was] essentially in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Rodgers added.

As of May 2024, Rodgers is still behind bars at the South Bay Correctional Center in South Bay, Palm Beach County, Florida.

Where is Curtis Wayne Wright now?

In 2016, Curtis Wayne Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and provided additional information about Mark Sievers and Jimmy Ray Rodgers.

He also admitted to having committed the murder alone, on behalf of Sievers, who was going to pay him.

In exchange, in 2020, Wright received a 25-year prison sentence and received credit – three years – for time served.

“I wish there was a way to change what happened, but I can’t,” Wright said, as reported by Wink News.

“This will stay with me for the rest of my life and I am truly sorry. Sorry.”

As of May 2024, he is currently incarcerated at the Walton Correctional Institution in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Why did Rodgers and Wright kill Dr. Teresa Sievers?

Dr. Teresa Siever’s husband, Mark Sievers, orchestrated her murder.

He connected with Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. to help plan and execute the murder.

Sievers allegedly told Wright that he was having marital problems and was worried that Teresa would leave him and take his children away from him.

Sievers told Wright he was in no position to fight for custody.

He also allegedly told her about a hefty life insurance policy that would have to be paid out after Teresa’s death.

Investigators would later discover that there were five life insurance policies on Teresa, totaling nearly $4.5 million.

Wright later told police that Sievers hired him to kill Teresa.

However, Sievers did not realize that Wright also enlisted the help of his friend Jimmy Ray Rodgers to carry out the plan.

Using some of the money Sievers gave him, Wright offered Rodgers a smaller amount for his help.

On June 28, 2015, Wright and Rodgers ambushed Teresa in her home and beat her to death.

She was reportedly hit 17 times with a hammer.

The pair then returned to Missouri during the night, while her body was found on the morning of June 29.

The two men were later arrested in August 2015 in Missouri.

How did Rodgers and Wright meet Mark Sievers?

Mark Sievers had known Curtis Wayne Wright Jr. for decades.

The two were reportedly childhood best friends, who reconnected at Wright’s Missouri wedding in 2015.

Wright would later tell police that Sievers offered him $100,000 to kill Teresa, as reported by Naples Daily News.

Sievers later paid Wright $600 to cover travel costs to and from Florida.

Sievers also provided him with “codes for garage and security system” along with an unlocked side door.

Wright enlisted the help of his friend Jimmy Ray Rodgers to commit the murder.

Wright testified that he knew Rodgers had “been involved in other deaths” before and wouldn’t think twice about helping him.

Wright also told police that neither Sievers nor Rodgers ever had any communication with each other.

Sievers, for his role in the murder plot, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.

As of May 2024, he remains on death row at the Union Correctional Institution in Florida.
