The daughter and son-in-law of a Republican politician are among three Americans killed by gangs in Haiti.

Davy and Natalie Lloyd, a missionary couple in the country, were shot to death in the capital, Port-au-Prince, after being ambushed as they left a youth group activity held at a local church, according to a police officer.

Their identities were confirmed in a Facebook post by Lloyd’s father, Missouri State Rep. Ben Baker.

A third person, as yet unnamed, also died during the Thursday night attack in the community of Lizon, north of Port-au-Prince, Lionel Lazarre, head of a Haitian police union, told The Associated Press on Friday.

“My heart is broken into a thousand pieces. I have never felt this kind of pain,” Baker wrote.

“Most of you know that my daughter and son-in-law Davy and Natalie Lloyd are full-time missionaries in Haiti.

“This afternoon they were attacked by gangs and both were killed. They went to heaven together.

“Please pray for my family, we desperately need strength. And please pray for the Lloyd family as well. I have no other words right now.”

The couple worked for Misiones in Haiti Inc, an Oklahoma-based organization founded by Mr. Lloyd’s parents.

Haiti: Why gangs have taken control

Donald Trump sent his condolences through Truth Social, writing: “God bless Davy and Natalie. What a tragedy. Haiti is totally out of control. Find the killers NOW!”

The shootings occurred amid relentless gang violence in the Haitian capital, which is now under 80% gang control.

Authorities in the embattled Caribbean nation are awaiting the arrival of a Kenyan police force as part of a UN-backed deployment aimed at quelling the violence.
