A PASSENGER on board the Qatar Airways flight that was hit by extreme turbulence leaving 12 injured has shown how his clothes were torn in the chaos.

The flight from Doha to Dublin suddenly plummeted hundreds of meters over Turkey, with eight of the injured being rushed from the tarmac in Ireland to hospital.

Those traveling on the jet described the terrifying scene as flight attendants were thrown into the air, leaving them with horrific injuries.

Speaking to the Irish news channel RTEone passenger showed how his shorts were torn during the turbulence of the crash.

The traveler named Cathal said: “It was atrocious… never again.”

Another passenger, Emma Rose Power, said: “There was panic, panic everywhere.

“Some of the flight attendants had scratches on their faces and ice on their faces. One girl had a sling on her arm.”

Eileen, who was on board with her partner Tony, described how he held her in the seat to stop her flying into the ceiling while she slept with her seat belt on.

She told RTE: “It was so scary. I’m in no rush to get back on the plane, I can tell you.”

Eileen added that she was simply “relieved to be back home safely.”

Traveler Myla said she thought “it was the end” when the jet fell mid-air.

Others described feeling like the plane suddenly fell for about five seconds while staff were serving food to those on board.

It appeared that the turbulence from the crash came as a complete surprise to the pilots, as the seat belt sign was not activated at the time.

Emergency services rushed to Dublin Airport on Sunday after the plane began shaking violently over Turkey about two hours into the flight.

Six crew and six passengers were injured in the dive before eight were rushed to hospital after flight QR017 landed shortly after 1pm.

In a statement, Qatar Airways told The Sun: “Qatar Airways can confirm that flight QR017, a Boeing B787-9 from Doha to Dublin, landed safely.

‘Brit, 73’, killed in turbulence on Singapore Airlines jet

“A small number of passengers and crew suffered minor injuries during the flight and are now receiving medical care.

“The matter is now subject to an internal investigation. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority.”

Graeme McQueen, media relations manager at daa, operator of Dublin Airport, said Sky News: “Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including the Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue Department, due to six passengers and six crew [12 total] on board reporting injuries after the aircraft experienced turbulence while flying over Turkey.

“Dublin Airport staff continue to provide comprehensive ground assistance to passengers and airline staff.”

An internal investigation into the incident has been launched.

This comes just days after a Singapore Airlines Boeing jet plunged 7,000 feet in a deadly six-minute crash.

Those on board the flight that killed British grandfather Geoff Kitchen, 73, remember “doing somersaults” while others were “hurled into the ceiling”.

Flight SQ321 took off from London Heathrow shortly after 10pm on Monday with 211 passengers and 18 crew on board – including 47 Brits.
