THE MOTHER of three girls stabbed at a cinema at the weekend has hit out at the alleged attacker, who she claims was laughing as he allegedly stabbed her daughters.
On Saturday night, Lisa Dembowski’s three daughters and a friend were watching a movie at the AMC Theater in Braintree, Massachusetts — about 20 minutes south of Boston — when they were attacked.
Dembowski told local NBC affiliate WBTS that his daughters, aged between 9 and 17, were watching the film If when the alleged attacker entered the cinema.
She claimed the girls were the only ones in the room at the time.
“My oldest son was leaning over to pick something up,” the Massachusetts mom explained.
“He grabbed her from behind and then my other daughter in the upper chest, and then my last daughter in his arm, laughing the whole time and then he grabbed their friend and ran away.”
The girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Dembowski later told Boston Globe that all three girls were physically fine but still shaken.
“I think they’re scared to just go to the movies on a Saturday night, and this could happen — someone could just walk into the movie theater and do this,” she told the outlet.
Police reportedly identified the suspect as Jared Ravizza, 26, of Martha’s Vineyard.
Investigators say the suspect entered the movie theater without paying and attacked the girls without warning.
“I think it’s a very sick individual to harm children,” Dembowski told WBTS.
“I hope he gets what he deserves.”
She later praised the first responders who arrived at the scene of the incident, saying they helped calm her daughters and herself.
“The instant ambiance of endless love and gifts, etc., put smiles on all of our faces and gave us all something positive to focus on,” she wrote in Facebook.
“This is all I choose to see and will continue to remind my children to see. We cannot allow our minds and hearts to be consumed by the negativity of that night.”
An AMC spokesperson told the outlet that the company is investigating the incident.
“We are saddened by this senseless act of violence,” the spokesperson said.
“We are encouraged to hear that the victims are recovering and are reaching out to their families privately.”
There will reportedly be a visible security presence at the AMC location for the immediate future, according to WBTS.
VIOLENT NIGHT
Ravizza was detained by police at around 7.15pm on Saturday following further violence in the area.
Immediately after the attack at the movie theater, authorities say the suspect fled the scene in a black SUV.
Just an hour later, Plymouth police received calls that two employees of a McDonald’s at a rest stop along Route 3 had been stabbed, the Plymouth district attorney’s office said in a news release.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows that Ravizza “allegedly reaches through the drive-thru window and stabs the male victim with a large knife.”
The male victim is 28 years old, authorities said.
Chronology of violent Saturday night
Multiple stabbings occurred in eastern Massachusetts on Saturday night, leaving at least six people injured
6pm: Ravizza allegedly entered the AMC in Braintree, Massachusetts and entered a theater without a ticket. Inside, he allegedly stabbed four girls, all between the ages of 9 and 17. He immediately fled in a black SUV.
7pm: Police in Plymouth, Massachusetts, receive 911 calls claiming that two workers at a McDonald’s at a Route 3 rest stop have been stabbed. Investigators say Ravizza stabbed the male victim while in the drive thru and then stabbed the female victim after parking his vehicle and entering the rest stop.
7:15 pm: After authorities identified Ravizza’s vehicle, a police pursuit ensued. The suspect failed to stop for state police and ended up crashing his vehicle in Sandwich, Massachusetts. He was arrested at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
He then allegedly parked his vehicle, entered the rest stop and stabbed a 21-year-old employee.
Both workers were hospitalized following the incident for treatment of knife lacerations.
Ravizza was identified after a witness at McDonald’s reported to police the license plate number of the black 2018 Porsche Macan the suspect was seen driving.
A pursuit with Massachusetts State Police then ensued as officers attempted to stop Ravizza.
He reportedly failed to stop for police and later crashed the vehicle in Sandwich.
The suspect was taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, where he remained Sunday.
Ravizza is facing numerous charges related to the McDonald’s incident, including assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Plymouth District Court, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
State police he said preliminary investigation appears to suggest that the stabbing at the AMC theater appeared to be linked to the McDonald’s incident.
The Massachusetts State Police did not immediately respond to The US Sun’s request for comment.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
