Bees like to build their hives everywhere.
Trees and shrubs are popular locations. And the same goes for various places around a house, like under the roof. Every now and then bees can be a little more creative. At least that’s what we heard from Fort Myers City Beach on Tuesday (May 28).
Here’s what arrived today in a press release in the News-Press inbox:
The city of Fort Myers Beach was notified of a beehive on the Matanzas Pass Bridge. We have reached out to the Florida Department of Transportation regarding the matter. Use caution when walking or cycling across the bridge.

Yes. There are bees buzzing on the bridge to Fort Myers Beach. The message from Fort Myers Beach officials?
Be careful with the bees.
“We got in touch FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation)as the bridge is their property,” said City of Fort Myers Beach spokeswoman Nicole Berzin. “We have also reached out Councell Farms, a bee removal company which is used by Lee County and FDOT.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no deadline for removing the bees. Furthermore, it is not known what type of bee built the large hive.
“We hope to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” Brezin said. “Until the issue is resolved, we ask pedestrians and cyclists to exercise caution when crossing the bridge.”
