A missing woman was discovered while a crocodile was biting her body.
The anonymous 60-year-old woman from Clear Lake, Texas, 43 miles southeast of Houston, went for a walk around 7:30 p.m. Monday and her husband reported her missing after she never returned.
The body of the woman and the alligator were discovered in Horsepen Bayou around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
Houston police said the alligator was found with the woman’s remains in its mouth.
A Housan police sergeant shot the alligator when he discovered the woman’s body “to prevent it from causing further damage to the remains,” CBS affiliate KHOU reported.
The Houston Police dive team recovered the woman’s body and the dead alligator from the bank.
The official cause of death has not yet been determined and police are unsure whether she died before the incident.
An autopsy is being performed and the Houston police homicide department is investigating the case.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Division of Law Enforcement assisted Houston Police in recovering the woman’s body.
“On May 28, Texas Game Wardens assisted the Houston Police Department (HPD) in recovering human remains found near an alligator,” they said in a statement, per an ABC affiliate. KTRK.
“The woman’s cause of death has not been determined.
“HPD is currently investigating the incident and will be the lead agency moving forward.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family during this time.”
RARE OCCURRENCE
A local resident, Angela Derous, fished at the bank on Tuesday night and noticed how she often sees huge alligators there.
“They live there,” Derous told KTRK.
“We see babies measuring 2.5 meters, 3 meters.
I know which benches to stay away from and where they like to sunbathe. This is the first time I’ve heard of this happening here. This is a little scary

It is not common for people to die in alligator attacks in Texas.
The most recent fatal alligator attack occurred in 2015 and before that was 90 years ago, KTRK reported.
