UKRAINE has hit Russia with a powerful twin attack on vital oil deposits used to supply Vladimir Putin’s military near annexed Crimea.

Violent flames were seen after three oil tanks exploded in kamikaze drone strikes in Temryuk, in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

Two employees were injured at the facility.

“As a result of the air strike, the infrastructure of the oil depot was damaged,” admitted regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev.

“The fire is being extinguished now.

“The fire was assigned a high category of complexity.”

In another devastating attack on Port Kavkaz, another oil depot as well as port facilities were hit and set on fire.

The Kerch Strait site is close to Putin’s £3 billion, 12-mile road and rail bridge, which links the occupied Black Sea peninsula with Russia.

Early reports indicated multiple victims.

Some reports said it was a drone attack, but it was later confirmed to have been carried out by modernized Ukrainian-made Neptune missiles.

Eight of these missiles were used to hit a ferry crossing and an oil terminal in the Kavkaz port, according to Ukrainian journalist Andrey Tsaplienko.

“Everyone reached their goal around 2am. The latest Russian air defense systems could do nothing,” he said.

The use of Neptune missiles was confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff.

“Several Ukrainian-made missiles from the Neptune coastal missile system were fired at the oil terminal near the Kavkaz port,” a statement said.

Drones were used at the Temryuk oil terminal.

“The ‘modern’ and ‘effective’ Russian air defense was once again powerless against our missiles and unmanned systems and failed to protect important facilities used for logistics and supply of the Russian army,” the Ukrainian General Staff said.

“This deposit [in Port Kavkaz] supplied fuel to the Russian army in Crimea and the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions,” RBC-Ukraine reported.
The night before, seven Russian boats – including two ferries used for military transport – were damaged in missile attacks.

Traffic on the giant crossing was halted amid the barrage of attacks from Ukraine.

Explosions were also heard in Kerch and Novorossiysk, as Ukraine intensifies its response against Putin’s numerically superior forces.

And Kazan – deep inside Russia, in the Volga Rover – was also targeted by a Ukrainian drone.

An explosion was reported in the vicinity of the Kazanorgsintez chemical plant.

Ukraine is involved in a campaign to strip Russia of its oil refining and supply capacity and has targeted dozens of factories in 2024.

Russia continued the bombing of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city.

Three people died and 16 were injured. Two children were among the victims.

The latest attacks of the war came as Politico reported that President Joe Biden had secretly approved attacks by Ukraine with US weapons against targets inside Russia.

Britain had previously permitted such attacks with its Storm Shadow missiles.

Around 14 Western countries have already approved such attacks, which are seen in Russia as proof of NATO’s involvement in the war.

Port Kavkaz is the fifth port in Russia by cargo handling and the second port in the Black Sea-Azov basin after Novorossiys
