Shocking footage showed a man armed with a large knife attacking another man before they both fell to the ground.

The furious knifeman repeatedly stabbed his victim, wearing a blue top, in the face and chest.

Other men dressed in blue, apparently workers or volunteers at the demonstration, tried to pull the attacker away from the victim.

The victim appeared to have been stabbed in the leg and face.

Blood gushed from a hole in his jeans and dripped near his eyes.

A police officer stumbled upon a worker in the chaos and was leaning over him when the stabber continued his spree, stabbing the officer in the back and side.

Another police officer pointed a gun at the stabber, who fell to the ground when a shot was fired in Mannheim’s market square.

Mannheim Police said on Friday: “Police operation on the market square.

“There is currently a major police operation in the market square in Mannheim.

“A rescue helicopter is also in use. No further information can be provided at this time.”
