Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 18-year-old daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, wants to change her name.
According to two sources familiar with the matter, the estranged couple’s daughter filed legal paperwork on her 18th birthday earlier this week to drop “Pitt” from her last name.
Sources say she now wants to be called Shiloh Jolie. NBC News has not reviewed the petition.
A source close to the matter said she hired and paid her own lawyer.
Representatives for Pitt and Jolie did not respond to requests for comment.
This is not the couple’s first child to drop the Pitt surname. Zahara Marley Jolie did this, at least publicly, in 2022.
This news comes amid the famous couple’s ongoing divorce battle. The couple, who share six children, split in 2016 after Jolie accused Pitt of suffocating one of her children during a volatile transatlantic flight in 2016. Jolie filed for divorce following the alleged incident. NBC News obtained the FBI report on the incident in 2022 following a Freedom of Information/Privacy Act lawsuit filed by “Jane Doe.”
Following the alleged incident, Pitt was investigated by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. NBC News previously reported that Pitt was cleared of any wrongdoing and criminal charges were never filed against the actor.
Since 2016, the exes have been fighting a legal battle over their winery, Château Miraval, located in the south of France. Pitt sued Jolie, accusing her of improperly selling half of his winery to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. Miraval was the location of their 2014 wedding.
Although the couple’s divorce is still ongoing, in 2019 they received a “bifurcated judgment,” meaning they are legally single.
