VLADIMIR Putin lost more than 1,200 soldiers in just 24 hours, marking Russia’s deadliest day in its meat-grinder war with Ukraine.

The rising number of victims comes after Western nations – including the US – gave Ukraine the green light to attack Russia with its weapons.

The Ukrainian General Staff said on Monday that the Russian military had suffered 1,270 casualties in the past 24 hours.

Kiev also destroyed 14 Russian tanks, 22 armored vehicles and 47 artillery pieces, they said.

The UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed that Russia lost around 1,200 soldiers a day in May and said the total number of soldiers lost since the start of the bloody war was likely to exceed 500,000.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense quoted philosopher Socrates in a post shared with X this morningwriting, “When you want success as much as you want air, then you will get it.

“There is no other secret to success.”

The Ministry of Defense released a balance sheet of Russian combat losses, which stated that 511,130 people were “eliminated” during the war.

If Ukraine’s numbers are correct, the last 24 hours have been the deadliest for Russia since Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

Kyiv reported Russian accident numbers of more than 1,000 per day since Moscow launched a new offensive on Kharkiv on May 10.

Russian forces are believed to have captured 13 settlements and 116 square miles of land in the area.

Ukraine claims to have stabilized the new front lines, although the fighting has drawn its resources from other areas and is said to have led to small Russian advances across the rest of the territory. frontline.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday it had captured a village and three other settlements in the Donetsk region, after saying on Friday it had made advances “in all tactical directions”.

Last week, as Russia continued its attack on Kharkiv and tried to seize more Ukrainian territory, US President Joe Biden gave Ukraine permission to use US-made weapons to attack inside Russia.

One source said the move would allow Ukraine to “counter Russian forces attacking or preparing to attack them,” while another said the move gave Ukraine the “flexibility” to defend itself.

American-made Himars missiles were later used in attacks on Russian troops in Belgorod, Russian sources claimed yesterday.

Putin has threatened all-out war if Ukraine uses Western weapons to target Russia and singled out Britain, warning that “countries with small territories and dense populations” should be careful.

The United Kingdom has supplied Ukraine with lethal and non-lethal weapons.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly asked his country’s allies for permission to use their weapons on Russian soil.

Last month, Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron said it was up to Ukraine to decide how to use British weapons and insisted it had the right to attack targets on Russian territory.

Russia is known for using Iranian, North Korean and Chinese weapons to attack Ukraine – but Putin said Kiev’s response with rockets from allies posed the risk of a “global conflict”.
