Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Colorado increased the week of May 19 compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported last Thursday.
New claims for unemployment benefits, an indicator of layoffs, rose to 2,896 in the week ended May 25, up from 2,689 the previous week, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims rose to 219,000 last week, an increase of 3,000 claims from the previous week’s 216,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
North Dakota saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 91.4%. Meanwhile, New Hampshire saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims falling 21.9%.
