LOS ANGELES – Pro-Palestinian protesters set up camp in front of Los Angeles City Hall on Monday night.

About 50 protesters with 20 tents were seen lining the sidewalks outside the building at Main and First streets, KABC-TV reported. Several tents had Palestinian flags and phrases such as “Free Palestine” and “Free Gaza”.

The Los Angeles Police Department on X, formerly known as Twitter, said it was monitoring the unpermitted rally and asked people to keep an eye on others on the streets.

No arrests and no injuries were reported. The police department issued an area-wide tactical alert as a precaution.

More than 3,000 people were arrested on U.S. campuses before the start of summer vacation last month, including protesters at the University of California Los Angeles, San Diego and Irvine campuses.

The last Israel-Hamas war began when Hamas and other militants invaded the south Israel on October 7th, killing around 1,200 people and taking another 250 hostages. Palestinian militants still hold around 100 prisoners, while Israeli bombings and ground operations in Gaza have killed more than 36,000 Palestinians. according to the Gaza Ministry of Healthwhich makes no distinction between combatants and civilians.
