Actress Mamie Laverock is on life support after a five-story fall, but she has since opened her eyes, her family says.

The “When Calls the Heart” actor’s mother, actress Nicole Rockmann, told Los Angeles Times that Laverock is “doing well” and expecting a “turnaround” in his health.

“Mamie just opened her eyes,” Rockmann said. “Let’s just hope this is the turnaround and she gets over it now. I couldn’t be happier that people reached out and cared. The story will be told.”

Rockmann said her daughter’s body was “shattered” after the fall and it is “an absolute miracle” that she is alive.

“All we care about is that Mamie can recover and that she is alive and that she is fighting and that she is strong,” Rockmann said. “It’s unbelievable that she’s with us.”

What happened to Mamie Laverock?

On May 11, Laverock suffered an undisclosed medical emergency and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada, the LA Times reports.

There, on May 26, Laverock fell five stories and was seriously injured, her family said. On the actor’s GoFundMe page, the family says that on May 26, Laverock “was escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken to a balcony where she fell five stories.”

According to Rockmann, Laverock is on life support and came off the ventilator on May 30 after undergoing multiple surgeries. The actor was then transferred to an undisclosed trauma center and was no longer at St. Paul’s, his mother told the newspaper.

Rockmann did not elaborate on her daughter’s injuries, but blames St. Paul’s for Laverock’s fall, saying it was not “intentional” and not a suicide attempt.

A spokesperson for Providence Health Care, which operates St. Paul Hospital, said “an incident occurred” at the hospital. However, the spokesperson said that “Providence Health Care cannot comment on this or any patient matter due to privacy and confidentiality policies.”

“In cases related to patient safety, an internal review of critical incidents is performed to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations to improve patient safety,” the statement read. “Our hearts go out to the patient, family and everyone affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”

Rockmann did not respond to TODAY.com’s request for comment on Monday.
