A MIDDLE school crossing guard has just been arrested after allegedly giving e-cigarettes and marijuana to students.
Students claim that the crossing guard also smoked marijuana with them.
Kiara Lee, a 26-year-old crossing guard at a Pennsylvania high school, was taken into custody Tuesday night, ABC affiliate reports. WPVI reported.
Lee, who worked at Penn Wood Middle School in Derby, Pennsylvania, was also texting a student, police report.
A student witness recounted several occasions when Lee was seen providing other students with e-cigarettes and edible marijuana, which are only legal for those 21 and older in Pennsylvania.
The student alleged that Lee provided these substances to at least two students.
“We pass by every day, so many students see her passing by [the vape] around and they were like, ‘Oh, let me hit the vape, let me hit the vape,'” a Penn Wood Middle School student told the Fox affiliate WTXF.
In addition to the students’ allegations that Lee provided drugs to minors, Lee allegedly sent messages to students about his experience consuming edible marijuana.
“While marijuana may not seem like a big deal to some people in the community, I think we can all agree that crossing guards should not be providing narcotics – even if it is ‘just’ marijuana – to our children,” said Police Chief Joseph Gabe . he said in a statement.
The police and parents are not happy with Lee’s actions.
“It’s a shame to have these people on these street corners to do their job, to protect the kids and now you’re telling me the kids are getting drugs from them,” one parent told WTXF.
“It’s totally disgusting.”
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer echoed the disgust expressed by parents.
“School crossing guards epitomize the role of a public servant,” Stollsteimer said.
“They are – literally – in charge of our children’s lives and hold a sacred position of trust in communities across the Commonwealth and the country.”
“For an individual to abuse that trust is deeply disturbing and corrosive to the well-being of the entire community.”
Lee is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and corruption of minors.
