Bliss opened last month and offers upscale West African and Caribbean cuisine.

The establishment requires women to be at least 30 years old and men at least 35 years old to dine there after 7pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

The goal of the age restriction policy is to provide an upscale dining experience free of the disturbances often associated with younger audiences, owner Marvin Pate told the local NBC affiliate. KSDK-TV.

The restaurant owners believe that by imposing these age restrictions they can offer a more serene and pleasant environment to their customers, especially at night.

“I think Bliss is a home away from home,” Pate said.

He says the restaurant was made for older and more mature audiences.

“Have happy hour, come eat some good food and not have to worry about some of the young guys bringing some of that drama,” said assistant coach Erica Rhodes.

Some customers are not thrilled with the age restrictions, voicing their complaints on social media.

On Yelp, Bliss scores just 2.7 out of 5 stars, with most reviews not even mentioning the quality of the food.

Instead, most of the negative reviews focus on the age restrictions, with many under 30s complaining and one even calling it “discrimination”.

“Nasty age requirement,” one person wrote.

“Of course we have received some backlash because of our policy, but that’s okay, we are following our code,” Pate said.

But Bliss says despite negative reviews from bitter customers turned away at the door, they plan to stay open for years to come.

“I would tell younger people to patronize the business when they turn 30 or 35 because we’re going to be here for a while,” Rhodes said.

And in fact, he said the overall feedback they’ve received about the age restrictions has been positive.

On Yelp, there were also many positive reviews, with some even praising the age restrictions.

I would tell younger people to come and patronize the business when they turn 30 or 35, because we will be here for a while.

“I love the age restrictions,” wrote one five-star review.

Another five-star review suspected that most of the negative reviews come from people who have never had a chance to eat at Bliss, as he said the ambience and food are amazing.

Another thinks some of the negative reviews have more to do with race and simply “don’t want to see a black restaurant succeed without white help.”

“I bet most of the negative reviews come from people who have never dined at Bliss and are just upset about the age restrictions,” he said.

“Oh, well, stop crying.”
