One person was killed and another was injured in a crash in Greenville County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Just before 7:30 a.m., a Greenville driver was traveling west in a 2005 Dodge pickup truck on State Park Road, about 2 miles east of Travelers Rest, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway. The truck left the road to the right, overcorrected and crossed the left side of the road before hitting a tree.

The driver was taken to a Greenville hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The only passenger in the truck died at the scene. The passenger was not publicly identified by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation.

As of Saturday, 357 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Security, 33 of which were in Greenville County. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
