Partygoers were waiting at the Rich Club in San Luis Potosi to see a show by Kevin Moreno – a well-known Mexican artist – when the tragedy occurred.

Horrifying footage captured on CCTV shows revelers storming the main square below the nightclub after the glass barrier broke.

Five of the 16 injured people reportedly suffered serious injuries.

They have been treated in the intensive care unit since this morning.

Jorge Hernandez, a city hall employee, said the nightclub did not have permission to hold shows.

He added: “The constant and uncontrolled presence of people present at this event caused one of the railings on the third floor of this building to give way under the pressure and led to this tragedy that cost the lives of two people.

“There are around 15 injured, some of them seriously.”

Shortly after the tragedy, authorities closed the nightclub and cordoned off the area for an ongoing investigation.

The two people who tragically died in the incident were identified as Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente, 21, and Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso, 17.

Manuel’s friend, Bufalos Cedral, said in tribute: “Today we suffered a great loss.

“Our friend and companion Manuel ascended to Heaven. Rest in peace Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente.”
