Four staff from Iowa college stabbed in China’s Jilin City | World News

Four employees of an American university have been stabbed in a park in northeastern China.

A video spread on social media showed blood-stained people lying on the ground and being taken to ambulances.

Iowa Politician Adam Zabner said his brother was among the victims and that the group had been visiting a temple in Beishan Park in the city of Jilin.

“I spoke to David…he is recovering from his injuries and is doing well. My family is incredibly grateful that David survived this attack,” Mr Zabner said.

The group from Cornell College in Iowa was on a teaching exchange program with Beihua University in Jilin.

Cornell President Jonathan Bran said the four instructors were with a member of the university’s faculty when they were stabbed.

A wanted poster has been posted for the suspect, but the motive is currently unclear.

China’s Foreign Ministry said it appeared to be a random incident.

The US State Department said it was aware of a “stabbing incident” and was monitoring the situation.

The State Department still has a Level 3 travel advisory in effect for the continent. Porcelainurging Americans to “reconsider” traveling there.

It warns of the possibility of “arbitrary application of local laws, including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of unjust detentions.”
