Temperatures in Dallas-Fort Worth have been sweltering this summer, with the first triple-digit day not far away.
Dallas-Fort Worth recorded 19 days above 90 degrees, the first of the year arriving on February 26th at 94 degrees. March and April haven’t had a single 90-degree day, while May has had 12 and June has had six so far.
On average, the first 100-degree day in Dallas-Fort Worth doesn’t occur until July 1, according to the National Weather Service. Fort Worth office. The Metroplex certainly recorded triple digits before that, but on average, that’s when it happens.
Three digits are not in the Dallas-Fort Worth forecast for next week, but North Texans can expect temperatures above 90 degrees over the weekend.
With the Metroplex just a few weeks away from July and potentially triple-digit temperatures, let’s take a look at past climatology:

HOW HOT WILL SUMMER TEMPERATURES BE IN NORTH TEXAS?
The current seasonal temperature outlook for North Texas predicts above normal conditions for June, July and August.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center issued the three-month forecast on May 16. Most of Texas experiences above-normal temperatures during the summer months.
However, above-normal temperatures do not always equate to extreme heat.
“Above normal does not necessarily mean extreme heat,” said NWS meteorologist Patricia Sanchez he told the Star-Telegram in May. “Could be a few more degrees.”

WHAT IS THE EARLIEST 100 DEGREE DAY ON RECORD IN NORTH TEXAS?
Well over a century ago, the first 100-degree day ever recorded in North Texas by the NWS occurred in March 9, 1911.
In total, 1911 ended with 27 days of 100 degrees or warmer temperatures. The hottest day of the year was 106 degrees on August 14, 1911.
WHAT IS THE LAST 100 DEGREE DAY RECORDED IN NORTH TEXAS?
More than 30 years ago, the last occurrence of a 100-degree day in North Texas was recorded in August 23, 1989.
In total, 1989 only had six more days with 100-degree temperatures. Although 1989 records the last occurrence of a 100-degree day, there are a few years where North Texas never faced triple-digit temperatures.
North Texas never recorded a 100-degree day in 1906 and 1973.
Does 90-degree North Texas in February portend a hot summer?
Not exactly, since it’s not possible to establish a direct correlation between the early arrival of 90-degree days and how hot the summer might be.
“History and climatology show us that no matter how soon we reach those 90 degrees, it does not necessarily confirm what we will look like during the summer,” warns NWS coordinating meteorologist Jennifer Dunn. he told the Star-Telegram in February.
