THIS is the horrific moment a boat explodes in a Costa Blanca port, injuring three people including a British tourist.
The 37-year-old man was rushed to Torrevieja Hospital along with a 31-year-old Lithuanian woman after suffering facial burns.
It is believed that the Briton was a customer of a rental company that chartered the faulty boat.
It was not immediately clear this morning whether he remained in hospital or had been released.
A third person, a 34-year-old Spanish man, was airlifted to a hospital in Valencia after suffering serious burns.
The explosion occurred at a pleasure port in Cabo Roig, a popular expatriate and holiday town south of Torrevieja in the Orihuela Costa area.
Police said they are currently treating the explosion as an accident.
A Civil Guard spokesperson said: “An emergency response coordination center received the alert shortly before 10am on Tuesday.
“The calls received said that there had been a possible explosion on a pleasure boat in the port of Cabo Roig.
“Civil Guard officers based in nearby Pilar de la Horadada confirmed that there was an accidental explosion that left three people injured when they arrived.
“They were a British man and a Lithuanian woman who were taken to Torrevieja Hospital and a Spanish man who was airlifted to Hospital de la Fe in Valencia.
“An investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
Footage showed worried onlookers running towards the water after seeing a ball of flames rise into the air.
The unidentified Spaniard, the most seriously injured of the three, was described locally as a worker cleaning the ship.
He suffered severe burns to the lower half of his body.
The explosion may have been caused by fuel spillage or engine failure.
But no cause has been officially determined yet.
Firefighters were called to the scene, but the fire had already been extinguished when they arrived.
