At least five people were injured after a mass shooting at an upscale gated community in rural Illinois.
Swarms of police and medics from three agencies responded in cars, ambulances and helicopters to reports of gunshots in the Lost Lake neighborhood of Dixon, Illinois, about 90 miles west of Chicago.
Authorities were called after a gunman fired dozens of shots, injuring several people.
Police reported that at least five victims were injured by gunshots, but that number could increase.
Four helicopters and several ambulances were requested to help the victims.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Department called the situation a “critical incident,” ABC affiliate OTVO reported.
The victims were transported to Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Chief of Staff Nancy Varga told WTVO.
Police officers arrived at the scene in large SVUs, trucks and police cars.
Video from the scene shows police cars lined up on the dirt road in the sprawling, tree-lined neighborhood.
Several one- and two-story ranch-style homes sit on large lots in the gated community.
The US Sun has reached out to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and Lost Nation Golf Club for comment.
