A BODYBUILDER has shared his simple secret to maintaining a great physique decades after abandoning professional training – and how you can do it too.
Dorian Yates amazed athletes around the world when he received the title of Mr. Olympia in 1992.
As one of the top bodybuilding titles in the world, winning the Mr. Olympia competition is generally seen as the pinnacle of a bodybuilder’s career.
But for Yates, it was just the beginning.
He won six consecutive Mr. Olympia titles, becoming the fifth highest-ranked competitor in the competition’s history, after big names like Robbie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The 62-year-old was recently spotted at the gym by a fan who asked him how he still has such killer leg muscles so many years after leaving the sport professionally.

“Check this out,” the fan can be heard telling Yates on Instagram clip he shared on his profile thedorianyates.
Yates flexed his protruding legs for seconds to surprise spectators.
“How often are you training now?” the fan asked him.
The megastar didn’t miss a beat before revealing his easy maintenance routine.
“Once a week on the lower body, once a week on the upper body, for half an hour to 45 minutes,” he said.
“I also cycle a lot, so it keeps them fit,” he added.
NO PAIN NO GAIN?
The family seemed to have a hard time believing that Yates only went to the gym a few times a week to stay in good shape.
“Look at those calves – you need to train them. Just once a week?” he asked again.
Yates laughed before giving his answer.
“I trained them about…27 years ago,” he said with a big smile.
“That was in 1998, I did calf raises, so…” he joked, referring to the year he retired from professional bodybuilding.
SIMPLE STEPS TO SUCCESS
Yates also had more serious advice for any fans looking to tone their legs.
I trained them about… 27 years ago.

“Gone are the days of the 1,500-pound leg press and six plates per side on the Smith machine squat, but plenty of muscle and definition remain,” he wrote in the post’s caption.
“I really only do seated leg extensions and seated and lying hamstring curls along with some bodyweight squats, so no leg presses or squats. I also bike and do interval training too!”
The professional highlighted how easy it can be to stay in shape.
“And for my calves, I haven’t done calf raises in years! Now I keep them mostly walking predominantly.”
“Of course, these days I have a good high-protein, low-carb diet,” he said.
And for anyone really struggling to get ahead, he shared some extra wisdom.
“I remember Mike Mentzer once said; ‘What’s the secret to bodybuilding success? Choose the right parents!'”
