However, due to the time he spent at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina in the late 1980s, before becoming a household name across the world for all the wrong reasons, Bobbitt fell victim to unhealthy neurological and physical problems caused by by seriously contaminated water.

While some have suffered various forms of cancer, Bobbitt was stricken with Toxic Peripheral Polyneuropathy, which causes nerve damage and contributes to osteomyelitis, a bone infection that causes ulcers and requires painful skin grafts.

The nerves in the feet, legs, hands and arms are at risk of irreparable damage.

The last of his operations in 2023 was to remove the rest of his toes, leaving him unable to work and seeking a slice of the $1 billion compensation claim signed by President Joe Biden at the White House two years ago.

He had no idea of the problems when his life was falling apart in 1993, but he does now.

Doctors were initially perplexed. The wounds would not heal and as the poisoned water had not yet revealed, he was treated for ulcers and sent away.

When Bobbitt meets with The US Sun at his new home in Sarasota, Florida, he enters the room with a visible limp. He is wearing specially made prosthetics, hiding yet another wound on his already bruised body.

He takes off his socks, revealing two worked stumps that look painfully raw. However, due to chronic nerve damage, he remains immune to any sensation.

In what was described As “one of the worst cases of water contamination in U.S. history”, petroleum, industrial wastewater, and toxic chemicals used as degreasers and solvents were all knowingly dumped into the military base’s local storm drains between 1952 and 1987, contaminating the supply of local water for 35 years.

“The government covered this up for 40 years,” Bobbitt told The US Sun in a wide-ranging interview about the past three decades and the uncertain times that followed.

“They knew.”

He vividly remembers the sweet taste of water, a byproduct of vinyl chloride — a colorless, flammable and toxic gas used primarily in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, a widely used plastic.

“They were testing the water and it was up to 3,500 times above normal safety standards,” he said.

Although Bobbitt says he has “three sets” of lawyers fighting for his rights, he is convinced that the deep mental and physical scars caused by his time at Lejeune were a contributing factor to his tempestuous relationship with Venezuelan Lorena.

“I wasn’t behaving the way I should have,” he said.

“Maybe I would have made better decisions if my cognitive functioning wasn’t distorted by the chemicals.”

DO

It was on June 23, 1993, in Manassas, Virginia, when Lorena, who to this day claims that violent abuse forced her to act and that she was raped that night, struck her private parts with a kitchen knife.

She threw the piece of mutilated limb out of the car before officers were able to retrieve it and place it on ice in a hot dog box collected from a nearby 7-Eleven.

The surgeons produced a small miracle by replacing what had been sawn off with the sharp 8-inch blade.

Bobbitt, who starred in a porn film, had a penis reduction and was married twice, has long maintained his innocence and begged The US Sun to examine police records from the rape trial, which preceded the hearing that saw Lorena escape. prison time.

She was found guilty of temporary insanity and spent 45 days in a mental institution before returning to life as a manicurist.

In the marital sex charge, Lorena alleged that her then-husband raped and violently abused her, although Bobbitt was acquitted.

What he took pains to point out, however, was how he claimed Lorena had been influenced by former boss Janna Bisutti.

He says a “false narrative” was put into place and haunts him to this day.

“Janna was a cerebral narcissist, saying I raped (Lorena), but there was no proof that I abused her,” said Bobbitt, who says she endured the “silent treatment” for two months as tensions rose.

“She was the abusive person, attacking me. A lot of times guys don’t defend themselves, they just shrug their shoulders.”

Bisutti, who had allegedly persuaded Lorena to tell the police the whereabouts of the severed penis, stood by her side at the end of the trial.

“She once and will again pursue her American dream when she can, and if publicity about her abuse can help one person find freedom, then all of this is not in vain,” Bisutti read in a statement at the end of the courtroom. Law Suit.

The US Sun contacted Bisutti via email but did not receive a response.

Problems between Bobbitt and Lorena continued, however – the now 57-year-old stresses he was ready to leave her – with the painful last straw coming when he lied about his whereabouts, preferring to say he stayed in a hotel rather than admit have hit a few bars with a friend.

He decided to stay and sleep – and woke up covered in blood and missing half his penis.

SEARCH FOR TRUTH

Jurors in the malicious wounding case concluded that temporary insanity was at stake, but Bobbitt is convinced the truth lies among the reports gathered before his own rape trial.

“It wasn’t publicized, practically pushed under the rug,” he groaned.

“Mine was factual, hers was just fiction. It was a false narrative, lies and made-up stories.

“There are probably a lot of people who would like to hear the truth, there are probably a lot of smart people who would like to hear the whole story, from beginning to end, how Janna covered it up,” Bobbitt continued.

“It was her behind closed doors. She was the one who basically created the false testimony.”

He is certain, however, that perhaps this whole inconvenient mess could have been avoided if he had never drunk and trained in the toxic water at Camp Lejeune all those years ago.

“There’s a saying that truth is the antidote to chaos,” concluded Bobbitt.

“Things can be so much better if you tell the truth. My heart was ripped out, but she has her story and I have mine.”
