A TARGET shopper has criticized the retailer over a controversial security measure.
Customer Johnny Midnight shared a video that showed aisles locked in cabinets at one of the retailer’s stores.
Several prominent retailers have adopted this anti-theft measure.
It involved stores locking certain items in acrylic boxes or covering entire rows of the material.
Shoppers are then required to call a staff member who can unlock the door for them and retrieve the items they wish to purchase.
O video shared by former Twitter user X (@its_The_Dr) showed a harsh example of this security measure in action at a Target store.
Several aisles of socks, underwear and tops were locked behind transparent doors.
“Target is locking up all their merchandise…” wrote the caption on the video screen.
“And it’s being rolled out across the country…”
Johnny Midnight questioned whether people would choose to visit stores like this.
“Would you shop at a Target if everything was locked up?” user X asked.
A user X suggested that the use of the security measure could indicate something else.
“If everything is locked, it’s probably not a safe place to shop,” said the user (@The fastest diet) he wrote.
Other shoppers also shared their displeasure at the move.
“Hard pass… but I don’t shop at Target anymore so there’s that,” one person wrote.
“Sorry, but I walked into a department store and everything is locked, I’m leaving,” said another X user.
If everything is locked, it’s probably not a safe place to shop.”

The US Sun previously reported on shoppers at other retailers who complained about this measure.
A Walmart customer shared several images on Facebook of items that were blocked from her visit to the store.
Wanda Donati said she visited a branch in Forsyth County, Georgia, to purchase some items, but was shocked by what was there.
“Now everything has locks behind glass doors,” Donati wrote.
“You have to press a button to summon an assistant to retrieve things including baby wipes, makeup, pans and small appliances.”
Just like the video that Johnny Midnight shared, she also noticed that the men’s underwear was under lock and key.
