The gunman accused of opening fire in a Michigan park on Saturday, shooting at least nine people, including two children, has been identified by police.
The shooting occurred at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, about 30 minutes north of Detroit.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office identified the shooter as Michael William Nash, 42.
Police say Nash, who was found dead shortly after the shooting, fired 28 shots at families and children in the park.
He was described as a white man who lived with his mother, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Police said he had no criminal record and was believed to be struggling with mental health issues.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard revealed that Nash was found dead in a home in Shelby Township, where he was restrained for several hours after the shooting.
Bouchard said Nash died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At least nine people were injured in the shooting, including an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy.
The 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering a head injury, while the 4-year-old boy is in stable condition with a thigh injury.
Another victim, a 39-year-old woman, is also in critical condition, with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg.
The two boys and the woman are members of the same family, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Another victim was identified as a 78-year-old man, who was reportedly shot in the abdomen.
He is in stable condition.
The shooting occurred around 5:15 pm local time on Saturday, when Nash arrived at the park and began randomly opening fire.
Police have not yet identified a motive and called the shooting “very random” and “bizarre.”
Bouchard said Nash had no connection to the victims.
At the scene, police recovered a 9mm Glock with three magazines.
They recovered a second gun, which reportedly appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle, from the home where Nash’s body was found.
Bouchard reportedly said this may have indicated that Nash was planning a “second chapter” of the shooting.
