New York State Superior Court rejected donald trumpin gag order appeal Tuesday, as the former president presses separately Judge Juan Merchan to close the order.
In your pending trial court motion, Trump argues that the order, which he opposed from the beginning, should end now that his trial is over. He was found guilty in the last month of all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
Merchan previously discovered that Trump violated the order 10 timesthat the judge imposed to protect the integrity of the criminal process. This stops Trump to speak out against witnesses, jurors, lawyers and court staff and their families.
Trump complained in his motion to Merchan that it is unfair for trial witnesses like Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels can talk about Trump, but can’t talk about them, and claims that President Joe Biden wants to capitalize on the restrictions of the gag order, including in the June 27 presidential debate.
There is an argument that the gag order might at least work differently now that the trial has concluded, but whether and to what extent remains to be decided by Merchan.
