Desperate search teams looking for missing Jay Slater are now focusing their efforts on a 2,000ft ravine in northern Tenerife.

Drones, helicopters and dogs have tirelessly searched the island since 19-year-old Jay disappeared on Monday, but so far they have been unable to find any trace of him.

Jay’s last known location was Teno Rural Park in the northwest of the island – a 10-hour walk from his accommodation.

He attended the closing night of the NRG festival with two friends he was on holiday with before leaving the club with two men he met that night.

The next morning he left the remote property and called his friend Lucy Law, saying his phone was about to die and he was stranded in the middle of nowhere.

The Lancashire teenager has not been seen or heard from since.

A massive search operation was launched on Monday, and Jay’s family and friends are growing increasingly worried as the hours and days pass.

Now teams are searching Masca’s ravine near a path in the mountainous terrain where he made one last frantic call to his friend Lucy

Investigators were seen removing bags of rubbish from the scene, but remain unsuccessful as they struggle to uncover any clues.

The Masca ravine is – according to island guides – about 3 miles long and 2,000 feet deep, with the walking trail leading from the hills to the sea.

Police briefly moved their search to the other side of the island on Wednesday after a reported sighting came in.

But the huge search operation returned to near the village of Masca in northwest Tenerife after the report turned out to be false.

New images from the search show helicopters flying over the area as firefighters, volunteers and police search the ground.

Jay’s family and friends in Tenerife are said to be “exhausted beyond words” as they struggle to find answers.

Rach Louise Harg, who shared updates in the “Jay Slater Missing” Facebook group, said: “Unfortunately there is no update for anyone.

“We are struggling to find words right now but all I can say is we are at a standstill and everyone is doing everything they can!!

“We are exhausted beyond words, I just can’t say any more, I wish I could, I wish this would end now, this living nightmare. RESEARCH is ongoing and we remain positive.”

As the hunt continues for a fifth day, the two mystery men Jay was last with have not broken their silence and have since left the island to return to the UK.

Come as…

It is unclear whether the men spoke to police in Tenerife before leaving the island.

Last night scary photos emerged of the Airbnb where they took Jay.

His last Snapchat photo was an out-of-focus image of a hand holding cigarettes in Buenavista del Norte, which is inside the park.

Pal Lucy revealed she tracked down the house where Jay stayed – and was told he was gone on Monday morning.

Both men said Jay went outside for a smoke before returning to the property and saying he wanted to go home.

It is not known where he bought the cigarettes.

Lucy said: “We managed to find the house. I knocked on the door and there were two people there.

“They told me that Jay had spoken to the neighbors and they told him there was a bus every 10 minutes back to Los Cristianos.

“The bus stop was right next to the house. So obviously if he had gone to catch the bus he wouldn’t have gotten lost because (the stop) was visible from the front door.”

According to local residents, Jay was spotted “walking alone” before disappearing.

Araceli works at the business near the rental property where Jay allegedly stayed before disappearing.

She said The mirror: “I never saw the missing boy, but I know people saw him walking alone. I saw the two Brits who stayed here.

“They came for coffee with milk a few times. One was around 40 years old.

“They arrived on Saturday and were supposed to stay until Monday, but they left on Tuesday.”

Lucy asked for the two men to be questioned by British police.

She previously described his disappearance as “suspicious” and added: “There is something strange going on.”

Members of Jay’s local community in Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn, gathered at a church event for a “service of hope”.

Friends in attendance described Jay as the “life and soul of the party” for Sky News.

Meanwhile, Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, made a desperate and emotional plea for her son’s safe return.

She fears the teenager has been kidnapped and flown to the island while the search continues.

Breaking into tears, she told ITN: “It’s just an absolute nightmare. It’s like a dream – it’s like it’s not happening, it really is.

“I just want my baby back. Please, anyone who can help, just look for him. There’s a huge area up there, huge.

“He’s somewhere or someone knows where he is. We just need to find my baby.”

She is among many of Jay’s family and friends who flew to the Canary Islands this week to help with the hunt.
