JOHN Wayne Bobbitt wants to finally put an end to one of the most bitter marriage splits of all time – with an apology.
It’s been more than 30 years since John Wayne’s ex-wife Lorena cut off his penis as their tempestuous marriage exploded in a fit of bloody rage.
The shocking incident in June 1993 made headlines around the world and the couple, who had been married for four years, went through legal proceedings that revealed violence and a lack of trust in their relationship.
Lorena claimed her former Marine husband subjected her to violent domestic abuse and rape, charges the now 57-year-old was cleared of after being hit with a marital sex charge.
Venezuelan Lorena’s malicious wounding trial ended with her being sent to a mental institution after the court concluded she was temporarily insane, which led her to mutilate John Wayne while he slept.
Recriminations have fluctuated since then.
Lorena says she was raped the night she took a knife to her husband’s groin, while John Wayne, in an exclusive conversation with The US Sun, claims he was about to leave her after “two months of silent treatment”. “
It has also been insinuated that the brutal act was born out of pure anger and a lack of trust.
John Wayne tried to get his life back together by moving to sunny Florida to be closer to family and friends, but he has now lost all of his toes after allegedly falling victim to the water poisoning scandal at the Camp Lejeune military base in New York. North Carolina, where he was stationed in the late 1980s.
He suffers from Toxic Peripheral Polyneuropathy, which has caused irreparable damage to the nerves in his feet and caused serious neurological problems.
He expects a sizable payout, especially after President Joe Biden signed a $1 billion compensation order in 2022.
The bitterness of his divorce from Lorena, however, remains, and when asked by The US Sun what he would say to his first wife, who has since remarried and had a child in Virginia, John Wayne is overcome with emotion.
“I hope she speaks up and admits she made a mistake,” he said with a tremor in his voice.
“We could have worked it out and had a family.”
John Wayne says Lorena’s silent treatment was never mentioned at his trial and admits to having made a series of errors in judgment – some of which he attributes to cognitive problems caused by drinking the toxic, polluted waters at Camp Lejeune.
He says “the truth will come out.” However, he knows he was also to blame.
He remembers petty arguments over Christmas trees and lying about where he was the night his manhood was cut off on a blood-stained bed.
BITTER ARGUMENTS
There were fights with some members of John Wayne’s family, with allegations that Lorena kicked out her brother and his wife in the middle of the night following a disagreement following a day at an amusement park and forced them to drive back to Delaware.
He also believes that with Lorena’s U.S. citizenship reaching its final 12 months, uncertainty “played a factor” in the dispute.
However, John Wayne fears he has fanned the flames of Lorena’s “controlling behavior” by applying to work the door at a nearby nightclub.
This only fueled his suspicions of affairs with other women, he said.
Why didn’t she wait until morning to talk to me? Why she did it?
John Wayne Bobbit
Three days before the attack, he claims to have told her about his plans to divorce.
Lorena, however, according to John Wayne, was very upset and begged him to reconsider, claiming that her faith taught her never to believe in divorce.
In the meantime, a local girl gives him a bicycle and invites him to a party, which strengthens Lorena’s fears about infidelity before she picks up a kitchen knife and launches herself into American folklore.
John Wayne was stitched back together and the pair attempted to carry on with their lives, despite the watching world continuing to grimace at the dismal outcome.
NO REGRETS
It wasn’t easy for either of them, but the man who will always be known for having his manhood saved by the police, who found his severed member on the side of the road and quickly placed it in a hot dog box filled with ice, managed it without regrets. .
“She was a very good woman, we could have had a great life together,” continued John Wayne, who said the pair had been separated for a year in the midst of their troubled encounter. “But things got difficult. She didn’t want anyone near me, she was jealous.”
“We were just trying to punish each other,” he added.
He is convinced that Lorena’s boss manicurist, Janna Bisutti, helped create a “false narrative” that didn’t tell the whole story about their tempestuous relationship.
“It haunts me,” said John Wayne.
However, other problems contributed to its downfall.
“We just didn’t have a support system,” he said. “We had no one around us who cared and was able to help us in any difficulty.”
But can anyone be excused for taking a knife to their nether regions?
“Yes, I could forgive her,” said John Wayne.
“The attack affected me differently because I was a Marine and trained for combat.
“I knew that when they got it back in I would be fine because it was healed so well.
“But why didn’t she wait until morning to talk to me?
“She’s still saying I’m a monster, but I just want my name back. I want closure.”
