Parliament, who founded the Duck Duck Jeep movement, died on Saturday, June 22, according to a Press release.

But days before his death – the cause of which was not publicly revealed – Parliament shared a final photo of a sweet, hand-knitted yellow duck wearing a blue hat.

“I got dodged today,” she joked a week ago on Instagram.

Parliament became known internationally for starting a group called Duck Duck Jeep in Ontario, Canada, “after a crazy experience left her wanting to spread kindness.”

ALLEGED ASSAULT

In 2020, at the start of the Covid pandemic, she traveled from Alabama to Canada to visit her mother and grandmother.

She wanted to return to Ontario to be closer to her family.

Parliament had an English Mastiff named Ollie and drove a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, Cana Bama.

While filling up at a gas station in Woodstock, Ontario, she was allegedly assaulted by a stranger.

Parliament said My Saint Anthony last November that the man was angry that she had crossed the border during the pandemic and allegedly pushed her against the side of his Jeep.

“The crazy experience left her wanting to spread kindness because the world was on fire and not in a good way,” said her group member. Facebook page.

Feeling unhappy about the disturbing experience, Parliament bought a bag of little rubber duckies from a store – to take to a friend’s house, with the plan of hiding them from him with funny notes to cheer him up.

But she spotted another jeep driver’s vehicle in the parking lot and, in a random and spontaneous action, left one of the yellow ducks in it.

In a world of bullies, simple acts of kindness are necessary. If I was given a purpose on this planet, I hope it was to create a small fraction of the joy that Allison was able to bring into our lives. RIP sweet soul.

Parliament also added a note that said: “Good jeep – have a great day.”

Thus, “ducking” – the act of leaving a rubber duck in a stranger’s Jeep – quickly became a popular trend across North America.

Thanks to social media, this unique action has gained traction around the world, with hundreds of thousands of Jeep drivers reporting similar “gifts.”

EMBRACED AROUND THE WORLD

According to the obituary, his “inspiration for Duck Duck Jeep came from his desire to uplift others.”

“What started as a simple act of kindness, leaving rubber duckies in jeeps to spread joy and positivity, quickly became an international phenomenon,” he added.

“Jeep owners and enthusiasts have embraced the movement, which has become a symbol of unity, camaraderie and unexpected happiness in difficult times.

“Tributes and messages of condolence have poured in from all corners of the globe, reflecting his profound impact on so many lives.

“Allison Parliament is survived by her family and countless friends who will cherish her memory and continue to be inspired by her remarkable spirit.”

Jeep drivers shared their own memories and tributes on social media following his passing.

One driver said Parliament invited her to a Duck Duck Jeep Invasion event in Alabama.

“It was nothing like we expected. Jeep Invasion brings together 30,000 Jeep owners to shop, tour the Pigeon Ford Strip and admire cool Jeeps,” she said.

Statement from Duck Duck Jeep following the death of Allison Parliament

Allison Parliament, from Orillia, was visiting the small town of Bancroft, in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was there that she, without knowing it, started a movement of kindness, companionship and recognition with that first rubber ducky that she placed in a jeep.

After a scary verbal and physical encounter with someone earlier in the day, Allison bought a yellow rubber ducky and when she found a Jeep like hers, she wanted to brighten another Jeeper’s day. She was caught doing it, but she brought joy and a smile to a stranger’s face. This caught on and others started Ducking Jeeps just like Allison did.

Many years later, this single gesture turned into the Jeep dodging craze that has swept the Jeep enthusiast community in the United States, as well as dozens of other countries around the world.

Sadly, on June 22, 2024, Allison passed away leaving a legacy of kindness and joy in the hands of Jeepers everywhere.

“Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to hug Allison many more times, send private messages about Internet bullies, and even recently discuss her plans to move the Duck Duck Jeep Invasion this year from [Alabama] to Windrock.

“To say I am shocked to hear this news is an understatement.

“I truly admire your dedication to the kindness and compassion movement.

“She took a horrible experience in her life and allowed it to drive her to create a campaign of positivity, even as bitter people criticized her kindness and posted negativity memes about a simple rubber duck symbol.

“The negativity surrounding ducks proves exactly what she means.

“In a world of bullies, simple acts of kindness are needed… if I was given a purpose on this planet, I hope it was to create a small fraction of the joy that Allison was able to bring to our lives.

SHOCKED BY DEATH

Another Jeep driver, a member of the Great Smoky Mountain Jeep Club, was among the fans who also paid tribute to Parliament.

“We need some kind of event this year to remember Allison Parliament, she was a wonderful person, it’s a joy to meet her. I’m still in shock over her death,” she wrote.

“I met her last year in [a] Jeep invasion [and] she autographed the dashboard of my Jeep… I will definitely miss her kindness, joy and light.”

Another driver wrote on Facebook that some people believed that “dodging jeeps is a silly thing… many traditional jeeps shy away from the idea.”

“Ducking Jeeps was born from a simple, pure and honorable action”, he explained.

“Allison would say she never thought it would become a ‘thing.’

“In fact, the first time she ‘shied away’ from someone was because she seemed to be having a bad day and her only thought was to make them feel better.

“No one could have imagined that this simple act of kindness would flourish… from coast to coast and beyond… and become part of Jeep tradition.

“Allison was a light in the darkness and her simple act of kindness is now part of Jeep history. I would like to think she would be smiling up there.”
