A police officer has died after Hungarian President Viktor Orban’s escort collided with two police motorcycles and a car.
The accident occurred at around 11:15 am at Albplatz, in the Degerloch district of Stuttgart, when the Hungarian leader was being escorted to the airport.
Another 27-year-old police officer suffered serious injuries and is being treated in hospital, reports Photograph.
The shocking accident happened after a 69-year-old woman driving a BMW ignored the fact that the intersection had already been closed by police to Orbán’s convoy.
The woman then turned left onto Löffelstrasse, at the intersection of Rubensstrasse, and crashed into the motorcycle of a 61-year-old police officer who was accompanying Orban’s car.
Due to the force of the impact, the police BMW was thrown onto the service vehicle of a 27-year-old police officer who had blocked the intersection from traffic with him.
The two police officers were seriously injured in the collision.
But despite the efforts of paramedics, the 61-year-old officer died from his injuries in hospital shortly afterwards.
The second officer was seriously injured and was taken to a clinic for further treatment.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Stuttgart police announced the Horror collision in a statement.
Police Chief Markus Eisenbraun said: “We are deeply shocked by the accident of our colleagues.
“The tragic circumstances surrounding the death of our valued colleague left us speechless and hit the entire Stuttgart police force deeply.”
Last night, Orban watched Hungary defeat Scotland in dramatic fashion in the Euro 2024 game.
The president wanted to leave for Budapest at lunchtime.
The accident occurred about eight kilometers before reaching the airport.
The Ludwigsburg Police Headquarters took over the investigation of this case.
