Police notified Minnesota residents in immediate danger about the Rapidan Dam failure.
“Anyone who is in immediate danger in connection with Rapidan Dam has been notified,” the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
“The dam is currently intact and there is no evacuation order for Blue Earth County residents.
“The situation is being closely monitored by BEC Public Works, Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office.”
Rain damage
The Rapidan Dam suffered critical damage following the recent flooding of the Blue Earth River, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said.
Hundreds of residents across the Midwest, including Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota, were hit by record rainfall over a three-day period.
Blue Earth County sheriff’s officials said extreme water levels sheared the side of the 114-year-old structure and debris accumulated in the water.
The Rapidan Dam is breaking
The Rapidan Dam, a crucial structure in Minnesota, is failing after a weekend of heavy flooding.
