The deputy’s political career Good Bob, the far-right Virginia Republican and chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, appears to be fading after his turnout in last week’s primary. And like other MAGA candidates these days, he’s taking his anger out on the election itself.

Good faced an uphill battle in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District after donald trump and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy maliciously supported his main opponent, State Senator John McGuire. The race has not yet been called, but McGuire was leading by about 350 votes from Monday afternoon.

Good appears to be trying to control damage by promoting conspiracy theories, including one about fires.

“We had 3 election day ‘fires’ in 3 districts, all requiring the districts to be evacuated for 20 minutes. Albemarle County, Hanover County and City of Lynchburg,” Good wrote on X On thursday. “What is the probability? Does anyone remember a fire at a police station on election day?

That same day, Good went on Steve Bannon’s podcast and said he encountered “resistance” from election officials in several Virginia locations and asked for donations to support his efforts to contest the results. Report X of his campaign has featured conspiratorial scenes ever since, including a demand for a “renewed” election in the city of Lynchburg.

Good also told Bannon that “let’s do a full recount,” which candidates in Virginia can request in close elections.

It is important to note that election officials in the three precincts that Good mentioned as having “fires” said that the fire alarms had came out inadvertently. Officials added that they followed protocol to keep things running as smoothly as possible during the brief delays and that no voters were turned away.

But Republicans like Good learned from Trump that they can make false and self-serving election claims with little or no repercussions. No one should be surprised to see this tactic being used against Trump and his chosen candidate in this scenario.
