CLEVELAND — An Ohio murder suspect who was mistakenly released from prison due to a clerical error was captured Wednesday, authorities said.

U.S. Marshals arrested Amarion Sanders, 22, of Cleveland, during an early morning traffic stop in the city.

Sanders was mistakenly released Monday from the Cuyahoga County Correctional Center in Cleveland, where he was being held on $1 million bond. The prison released him after charges against a man in an unrelated case were dismissed and the defendant’s court case number was entered incorrectly.

Sanders’ trial was scheduled to begin on August 19. He is accused of aggravated murder in connection with a September 2023 shooting in Cleveland and has maintained his innocence. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, assisted in the search for Sanders.
