Shocking moment stranger hits bargoer on head with piece of wood and punches another in sickening, unprovoked attack

The hunt is on for a man who knocked down a bargoer in a random and unprovoked attack on Saturday.

Surveillance footage shows the shocking moment Adam Mercado was brutally thrown to the ground outside the City Tavern in Dallas, Texas.

The attack occurred around 1:42 am, when Mercardo was heading to the bar to have a drink with his girlfriend.

While saying goodbye to friends in the outdoor courtyard, an unknown man is seen passing by on the sidewalk.

The man appears to pull his arms back before hitting Mercado in the back of the head with a long stick.

One of Mercardo’s friends approaches the man before he can flee, but is also thrown to the ground as the man runs away.

Mercado told local ABC affiliate WFAA-TV who saw the man before entering the bar, saying that he had in his hand a long tree branch sharp at one end “like a spear”.

“We decided to go to the bar, greet some friends, have a drink before bed and then go home,” Mercado told the outlet.

“He seemed suspicious, so I took my girlfriend inside real quick. We had our drink and then said goodbye to some people outside. I let my guard down for about 10 seconds and that was all it took – just a ‘WHACK.’

“The branch broke over my head and I fell to the ground,” Mercado continued.

Mercado’s girlfriend, Taylor Monnet, said the attack came out of nowhere.

“You don’t know what to do – you’re confused and all I could do was start screaming for help,” she said.

Mercado was taken to hospital but says he will be fine as there was no permanent damage from the attack.

However, he is dealing with a concussion and was hit by a huge hospital account.

Now he is raising money to offset the cost, especially since he will be unemployed for a while.

“I feel extremely blessed to say that all of the tests and exams the doctors have performed have come back positive,” the GoFundMe description read.

“Unfortunately, I am now faced with medical problems accounts which I cannot pay, accompanied by lost wages in the last few days. Any amount of help is greatly appreciated and means more to me than you will ever know.”

The fundraiser currently has raised $6,250 of a $20,000 goal.

At the time of this writing, police only had the security video to work with.

Mercado asks people to watch the images to see if they recognize the attacker.
