The footage was sent to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, as seen by Leesburg-News. with.

Diaz stole merchandise from Walmart seven times on May 6, twice on May 14 and also on May 16, May 18, May 31 and June 14.

The total amount of unpaid merchandise amounted to almost $200.

On June 24, Diaz was arrested at the store.

She was charged with seven counts of petit retail theft, according to the police report.

The alleged robber was booked into the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,500 bail.

The Lake County Jail did not provide further details about the arrest.

ANTI-THEFT POLICIES

Many retailers have noticed an increase in organized crime and have since implemented anti-theft policies to dissuade customers from stealing.

Approximately $121.6 billion was lost to retail theft in 2023 and that number is expected to rise even further, according to research conducted by Capital One.

By 2026, around $150 billion is expected to be lost.

The same survey also found that instances of shoplifting have skyrocketed.

In 2022, shoplifting increased by 19.4%.

Among these new anti-theft measures, retailers have increased security, enforced random receipt checks and limited self-checkout items.

Consumers say these new policies are ruining their shopping experience.

Anti-theft measures implemented by retailers

Retailers in the US and Canada have implemented strategies designed to combat theft. The US Sun has compiled a list of measures that have been implemented in stores.

  • Lock items in cabinets.
  • Safety stakes.
  • Security cameras.
  • Signs warning about the impact of theft.
  • Receipt scanners.
  • Receipt checks.
  • Carts with locking technology

A shopper refused to show her receipt to a Walmart employee, claiming she was pregnant and raising another child.

MEMBERS ONLY

Shoppers are also criticizing Walmart for its subscription service called Walmart+.

The association claims to offer customers exclusive benefits, including free delivery on orders of $35 or more.

Although Walmart customers are not required to tip delivery drivers, delivery drivers often expect a tip as a thank you for their service.

Customers said they cannot afford the extra fees.

Some are canceling their subscription and threatening to shop elsewhere.
