Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Alabama fell last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.
New claims for unemployment benefits, an indicator of layoffs, fell to 2,175 in the week ended June 22, down from 2,325 the previous week, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims fell to 233,000 last week, a drop of 6,000 claims from the previous week’s 239,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Vermont saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 268.4%. Delaware, meanwhile, saw the biggest percentage drop in new claims, with claims falling 38.1%.
