Rumored potential presidential surrogates, Gavin Newsom of California, JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, were nowhere to be found despite their reported presence.

Instead, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Wes Moore of Maryland and Kathy Hochul of New York addressed reporters after the meeting.

This is the president’s latest attempt to prove he can win over the American public after his disastrous debate performance.

Speaking at the meeting, the White House revealed that “the president reiterated his determination to defeat the existential threat of Donald Trump at the polls in November and sought the advice and experience of Democratic governors.”

“In addition to defeating Donald Trump, the meeting also focused on the importance of electing Democrats at the ballot box to get more Democratic governors and more Democratic majorities in Congress and statehouses across the country.”

“All participants reiterated their common commitment to do everything possible to ensure that President Biden and Vice President Harris defeat Donald Trump in November.”

The president’s spokesperson also confirmed that there is no chance of Biden dropping out of the race.

“The president is and will remain our party’s nominee, and Vice President Harris is proud to be his running mate and looks forward to serving alongside him for four more years,” campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said. CNN.

“Reports suggesting that they or the campaign are considering alternative scenarios are patently false.”

After the meeting, the governors spoke to reporters outside the White House and admitted they were pleased with what they heard.

“It was honest, it was sincere. We were honest about the feedback we were getting,” Gov. Wes Moor told reporters.

He revealed that he and his colleagues are looking forward to working on the next steps with Biden.

“What makes us more optimistic and hopeful is that we have hope for the future. We know we have work to do, we know we are behind.”

However, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was quick to address the elephant in the room.

When a reporter asked about the president’s well-being, he quickly reaffirmed that he was “fit for office.”

“None of us are denying that Thursday night was a bad performance. It was a bad hit, if you like, but it doesn’t affect what I believe: he’s delivering.”

During the meeting, he revealed that he and others conveyed their concerns but came to the agreement that “we are all looking for the way to win. All governors agree with this. President Biden agrees with this.”

“What we saw there today was a guy who we all believed for the first time could beat Donald Trump and did beat Donald Trump,” he said.

Governor Kathy Hochul added that once the meeting began, they were able to understand what the president’s plans were.

“We gathered tonight to hear President Biden tell us in his own words what his plans were,” she said.

“Joe Biden is in it to win. The stakes couldn’t be higher.”

PREVIOUS SUPPORT

Before the meeting, many governors made it clear that they were counting on Biden to continue his campaign.

“Democratic governors are some of the president and vice president’s most proactive and vocal supporters because they have seen how the Biden-Harris administration’s accomplishments are directly benefiting their residents,” one official said. The hill.

The meeting took place at 6:30 pm EDT on Wednesday in the Roosevelt Room, according to the White House.

Newsom even added that talking about Biden’s resignation would be “pointless and unnecessary” last week.

“I’m old-fashioned, but deep down, Joe Biden won the debate last night. That’s what matters to me,” Newsom wrote in a fundraising speech for Biden’s campaign on Friday.

“We are not going to turn our backs because of a presentation. What kind of party does that?

Governor Moore also rejected any idea that the president should resign in a recent interview.

“Joe Biden is our nominee. Joe Biden is our leader. And Joe Biden won and Joe Biden deserves the trust, the respect and, frankly, the partnership that we now have to provide him,” Moore said. CBS News.

SHOCKING DEBATE

The president has been working hard to prove himself after his shocking defeat in his first debate with Trump.

During the televised debacle, Biden struggled to answer questions and spoke in a low tone on stage.

He even seemed to freeze and look away during several moments in the special.

At one point, Trump snorted about not being able to understand the president.

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence,” Trump said during the debate.

The president addressed public concerns about his performance against Trump, claiming that his recent travels played a role in the debate.

“I wasn’t very smart,” Biden said while talking to donors at a fundraiser in Virginia.

“I decided to travel the world a few times… just before the debate.

“I didn’t listen to my team… and I almost fell asleep on stage.”

Before the debate, the president noted that he had been to Camp David, Atlanta and Italy for a few weeks.

“It’s not an excuse, but an explanation,” Biden said Tuesday.

He apologized, but also emphasized that it was “critical” for him to win the next election.
