In the High Desert’s “City of Unlimited Possibilities,” Marycarmen Ruiz, Oscar Ruiz, and Alicia Urena-Esquivel have found their carb-laden niche among Adelanto’s 26,000 undeveloped acres.

The trio is bringing a new flavor to town in the form of Bread Love, a business that’s been years in the making, the owners told the Daily Press.

“I’ve seen Adelanto grow a lot since I lived here,” said Oscar. “We took advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the city’s development with our bakery.”

The new bakery neighbors Louisiana Fried Chicken and G. Family Beauty at Cactus Road and Highway 395. Its tree-lined “country-style” store is in the soft opening phase, with a grand opening scheduled for late July/early August.

What’s on the menu?

The Hesperia couple, Oscar and Marycarmen, started their baked goods and sandwich stand at several farmers markets throughout the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County amid the 2020 pandemic.

Her sister-in-law, Urena-Esquivel, has been in the food industry for more than 15 years and is the mastermind behind sweet-topped danishes, gooey cinnamon rolls and other mouth-watering treats.

Marycarmen has one idea after another for the future of her store. She eventually wants to incorporate sweet pan as shells, marranitosand other seasonal panels in the menu.

She also hopes to keep the store open from 5am to 8pm once they get the hang of it. Remote workers and students will finally have a late-night cafe to call their own after the rest of the High Desert heads home for dinner.

Oscar and Urena-Esquivel may be the engineers behind many of Bread Love’s sandwiches, but Marycarmen is pushing bakery boundaries with their innovative ideas.

“We’re going to offer Mexican food with a twist, like fusion,” she said. “Don’t blend birria into ciabatta until you try it.”

While they finalize the logistics and receive the final oven pieces needed to begin infusing their store with the warm aroma of freshly baked bread, the bread is baked down the hill at their sister store, Old Town Baking Company.

Until then, expect to find a selection of sourdoughs at Bread Love, such as jalapeno cheese, asiago cheese, cranberry walnut, whole wheat, and plain sourdough. Once Bread Love is baked in-house, they plan to add more rustic-style breads to the menu, like buttermilk and French baguettes.

The Bagelicious bagel sandwich comes with fluffy cream cheese and crunchy fresh bean sprouts. The Grated Egg Toast with Avocado and Sriracha Sauce is recommended for all first-time customers.

Other menu items include, but are not limited to:

During the soft opening, Bread Love is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A loaf is $8, but they offer 2 for $15 or 3 for $22 in packages.

It contains no preservatives in its ingredients, which makes its products some of the freshest and healthiest in the region. As a result, the shelf life is 5 days, 7 to 10 days if stored in the refrigerator.

“Happy is an understatement,” Marycarmen told the Daily Press. “Bread Love’s healthy eating is our way of giving back to the community, especially in an area that is constantly developing and growing.”

The owners of Bread Love say they are excited to start feeding Adelanto.
