EATONTOWN — An early morning fire broke out Friday at the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on Route 35 in the neighborhood, destroying the building, police said.
Just before 5 a.m., Eatontown patrol officers smelled smoke and tracked it to the fast food restaurant at 25 Route 35. When officers arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof, said Eatontown Detective Lt. Edward Nelson.
“No fire alarms went off,” Nelson said. “The building is destroyed.”
No one was injured in the fire and the cause has not yet been determined, he said.
Sergeant Christopher Quackenbush, patrol officers Matthew Schou, Katelyn Johnson, Daniel Gilligan and Special Officer II Corey DeFeo worked to find the source of the fire.
Assisting the Eatontown Fire Department were firefighters from Tinton Falls, Oceanport, Little Silver, Ocean Township, Neptune, Glendola in Wall. First aid squads from Eatontown and Wanamassa also attended.
The Monmouth County Fire Department and Eatontown building officials are investigating.
