President Joe Biden is facing increasing pressure from some members of his party to withdraw from the 2024 race after your disastrous debate last week. In a remarkable series of defections, some publicly prominent Democrats asked the president to give up and expressed concerns that he may not win donald trump in November.

Here is a list of top Democrats, including sitting members of Congress, who have called for Biden to be removed from the ticket:

Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton

Moulton on Thursday became the third sitting House Democrat to call on Biden to resign, telling WBUR that it was time to “let new leaders rise up and run against Donald Trump.” He said he made this decision after talking to other Democrats about Biden’s chances in the election.

“That’s the most important thing,” Moulton said. “We have to win.”

Arizona Representative Raúl Grijalva

Grijalva called on Biden to withdraw from the race on Wednesday, saying The New York Times: “What he needs to do is take responsibility for keeping this seat — and part of that responsibility is getting out of this race.”

He said he would support Biden if he decided to continue running, but questioned whether the president could defeat Trump in November.

Julián Castro, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

Castro wrote in a post on X on Tuesday that Biden’s debate performance “disturbingly demonstrated that he is incapable of effectively prosecuting the case against Donald Trump — much less inspiring and mobilizing voters to the polls.”

Castro, who ran against Biden in 2020, said the president was no longer the same activist he was four years ago and that he “seems very likely” to lose to Trump.

“President Biden should fulfill his promise to be a bridge to the next generation of leadership – and allow a stronger Democratic candidate to avoid a disastrous second Trump term,” Castro wrote.

Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett

Doggett was the first sitting member of Congress to call for Biden to withdraw, saying in a statement Tuesday: “I represent the heart of a congressional district that was once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw. President Biden should do the same.”

Former Ohio Representative Tim Ryan

Ryan, who had questioned whether Biden should run for re-election already in 2022, declared in a Newsweek opinion piece on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris should be the Democratic presidential nominee.

“Witnessing Joe Biden’s struggle was moving. And we must forge a new path forward,” he wrote. “Those who say Harris’ candidacy poses a greater risk than the Joe Biden we saw the other night and will continue to see are not living the reality.”
